AMPED is a NSW non-profit organisation which hosts conferences a few times a year to aid in the teaching and education of medicine and health to a wide range of communities. This Australian based organisation attracts delegates from all over the world with its broad range of expertise and ability to effect change at a community level.

AMPED (Allied Medical Professionals for Education and Development) has been running multi-focused medical conferences in the Maldives for the past 18 years, nowadays within the region of Chaaya Island as it is close to the airport, allowing the team easier access to the surrounding region to deliver tutorials and educational programs. Aside from the ease of getting around, the island also provides a wide range of accommodation choices, as well as many extracurricular activities such as snorkelling, scuba diving and shopping.

The success of AMPED over the years has led to the introduction of a medical conference in January 2014 on the island of Hokkaido, Japan. The conferences are multi-disciplinary with participants that include doctors, nurses, paramedics and other allied professionals such as accountants and lawyers. The diverse range of topics allows practitioners to keep up-to-date in fields of medicine other than their own.

AMPED has formed a solid relationship with the Maldivian Health and Education System and now contributes to a number of health initiatives, demonstrated by the national CPR program initiated by AMPED after the tragic drowning of five school children and their principal.

AMPED has also donated a large amount of medical equipment to the local health system which the system may not have ordinarily been able to afford and their upcoming conference in October in the Maldives will see the introduction of an ultrasound workshop for health practitioners.
