THE GREAT OUTBACK

Small group 4WD explorations of remote and rugged regions like the Kimberley, Flinders Ranges and Top End are among the experiences on offer in APT’s new Outback Wilderness Adventures brochure for the April to October 2012 season. Other destinations covered in the brochure include Cape York, the Red Centre, Birdsville and Lake Eyre. There are 10 itineraries in all, ranging from six to 14 days in duration.

These are itineraries that explore out of the way places with a maximum of 24 guests, travelling in custom-designed 4WD vehicles, escorted by a tour guide. The brochure also features a range of APT SuperDeals, such as savings of up to $900 per couple for bookings made before February 29, 2012.

A popular itinerary is the 12-day Birdsville and Corner Country Tracks, with highlights including a 4WD Ridgetop tour of Arkaroola, checking out the Flinders Ranges and travelling along the Birdsville Track.

HOP OVER TO KANGAROO

Kangaroo Island is gathering further momentum as a domestic tourism destination, with its array of wildlife, spectacular landscapes and caves, pristine beaches and unspoilt wilderness.

Among the new additions for the destination is Kangaroo Island Sailing, an operator offering luxury boat adventures aboard the Lady Eugenie, a 21-metre classic ketch. Trips range from twilight sails and day sails to the Kangaroo Island Three Day Adventure, where clients spend two nights onboard in a queen size state room with en suite, anchoring at secluded spots off the coast of the island.

The destination is also featuring increasingly in Australian cruising programs. For example, this time next year will see P&O back in Kangaroo Island waters with its nine-night Southern Scenes cruise, which sails from Fremantle and also takes in Albany and Port Lincoln.

GO NORTH AND WEST

Margaret River, Broome and Uluru are a few of the destinations included in AAT Kings’ new 2012/2013 Western Australia and Northern Territory program.

The new program includes accommodation in key properties such as Cable Beach Club Resort, Castaway Resort at Mission Beach and Emma Gorge Resort in El Questro National Park. Additionally, the operator has made widespread accommodation upgrades with the Novotel, Crowne Plaza and Mantra brands consistently used throughout the program.

The tour operator has also introduced a standard Guided Tour product. AAT Kings said the new Guided Tours ensured clients enjoyed the must-see sights of each destination, while also being offered the choice of various optionals such as a scenic helicopter flight over El Questro National Park or a sunset cruise on Darwin Harbour. You Are Invited experiences for 2012/2013 include enjoying outback cuisine with the owners of Australia’s oldest operating rum distillery, in Kununurra.

Early payment savings are available for those who book and pay 12 months before departure.
