Lightroom: Easter Island

RAPA NUI, a mysterious, tiny, isolated island adrift in the Pacific, was discovered by Dutch explorerJacob Roggeveen on Easter Sunday 1722 hence the name Easter Island. Claimed to be the most remote inhabited island in the world, this Chilean special territory is most famous for its 887extant monumental statues, called Moai. They were created by the early Rapa Nui people between 500 & 700 years ago.

These represent deified ancestors who the Rapa Nui people worshiped in the belief that the dead provided everything that the living needed  (health, fertility of the land and animals). In turn the living, through offerings provided the dead with a better place in the spirit world.

Now a few fortunate guests can experience the wonders of Easter Island in supreme style  at the incredible Explora Rapa Nui hotel. It is focused on sustainability, comfort and engaging guests with their local environment and culture. Three-night packages start from $2385.
